One Step at a Time, One Breath at a Time Daylong Meditation Retreat
March 8 from 10 am to 4:30 pm ET
This retreat will focus on cultivation of Compassion (Karuna), Perseverance (Viriya
Parami) and Resolve (Adhitthana Parami).
We will use the story of the little parrot from The Brave Little Parrot Jataka Tale to reflect
on how to cultivate and embody compassion (Karuna), perseverance (Vīriya Parami),
and determination (Adhitthāna Parami), enabling us to make a meaningful impact
regardless of the circumstances.
Dreaming the Real by Linda France
I’m lying down looking at the colour
of sky falling through trees, dreaming
the real, tasting what it feels like to love it.
Why did it take me so long to let go, simply
exhale, so the day could breathe itself in
and open without me standing in the way?
How could I forget the grace of my own body
strong as this blue, tender as the white
of the wild blossom, warm as midday light?
Let me practice a patience bold enough
to hold every weather, trusting the elements,
the beauty of rain, all it shades of grey.
I want whatever’s real to be enough. At least
it’s a place to begin. And to master the art
of loving it; feel it love me back under my skin
The retreat will be held in noble silence and will include alternating periods of sitting and
walking meditation, mindful movement, instructions, and reflections, with a mid-day lunch
break to practice mindful eating. The schedule will also include an optional discussion
period to reflect on how to skillfully apply the wisdom of the practice in our daily life.
While the retreat is open to practitioners of all levels, some prior meditation experience
is recommended.
Bring your lunch, yoga mat if you have one and any appropriate props you will need for
your sitting meditation practice. Rising Fawn Gardens has chairs, large bolsters and
blankets. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes for walking outside.
Cost: $40 registration fee plus dana* for the teacher
